What a journey this has been…

When the shutdown was announced we went into shock mode, everyone thought, “what next? and how long would this last?

Here we are one year and four months later, and we have had the governor lift restrictions as of July 1st, 2021, allowing businesses to use their own discretion per their industry to set their safety procedures for their company.

We acknowledge that over 60% of New Mexicans have been vaccinated and feel safe without wearing a mask.

Tijeras is a small salon and has experienced economic hardship since the pandemic started. We were forced to close over a period of three and a half months, and we were forced to work under the restrictions of a 25% capacity limitation. We are now at a place where nationally, and locally, we are hindered with no hiring power due to unemployment benefits and potential employees not actively seeking work.

Small businesses in New Mexico have closed or are currently in a stressful position of keeping their doors open. We have lost many of our beloved salons in New Mexico due to COVID19 and the ability to hire and maintain their overhead.

We are a signature establishment for over 40 years and have never experienced any type of disaster like this before. To keep our staff, family and clients safe and healthy, we established a $10 sanitation fee per appointment which overall, enabled us to keep our doors open and to service our amazing clientele.

According to USA Today news on June 19, 2021, CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky has stated the “highly-contagious Delta variant is likely to become dominant in US by the fall”. Therefore, the following COVID19 guidelines listed for Tijeras will be held in place until further notice. *Read Below

Prices are rising everywhere, the post-pandemic recovery is in full swing and the global economy is struggling to keep up. As a small business, Tijeras wants to thank you for your support during the past year and the following months.

Our current COVID19 guidelines:

Your health and safety are our top priority and because of close contact between our staff and our guests, the staff at Tijeras will remain wearing masks during services until further notice.

Guest Guidelines

  • Masks, if you have had your vaccine for COVID19, masks are optional at your discretion.
  • If you have not had your COVID19 vaccine, upon entering the building please wear your masks.
  • If you need to cancel or change an appointment, we appreciate a 48 – hour notice.
  • We allow 15min after each appointment – to sanitize all stations, sinks, and equipment that have been used before our next guest arrives.
  • Each guest is given a clean gown or chair cloth that is only used for you during service.
  • A $10.00 upcharge is added to your ticket per appointment that covers all sanitation and safety procedures and helps us with direct overhead.

The coronavirus pandemic continues to wane in many parts of the U.S., but the spread of the highly-contagious Delta variant among the unvaccinated could pose a new public health threat, warned President Joe Biden and the head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Friday.
