1940’s Sleek Hairstyles

Drastic changes in fashion were made since the Roaring ’20s and displayed through different hairstyling techniques.

Large curls and volume were very popular during this time, the “messy” look of today’s modern world would not have been socially accepted. With men being away for war, women took on the role of the breadwinners as well as the homemakers.

Women during this time were highly expected to “stay busy and stay beautiful”, according to the 1943 Barbara Gould Advertisement. The 1940s gave rise to a more classy and timeless look that many are replicating in today’s fashion world.

We highlight these sleek hairstyles in our early November newsletter!
